Abdulla earned his BSc, MSc, and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Khalifa University, UAE. His doctoral research focused on the development of mechanical metamaterials, with emphasis on additive manufacturing and topology optimization, resulting in a patented invention in the UAE and a published US patent application. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Bristol, UK, where he focused on sustainable and bio-inspired smart materials, including hygromorphic structures and actuators.
His current research interests include the development of computational frameworks for smart composite laminates, particularly Double-Double laminates, and the modelling of mechanical memristive systems, with an emphasis on nonlinear dynamics, memory-dependent behaviour, and wave propagation.
Beyond his academic research, Abdulla has contributed to the design, integration, and testing of several UAE CubeSat missions, including MYSAT-1 (the first CubeSat launched by Khalifa University), DhabiSat, and LIGHT-1.
