The 6G Research Center (KU 6GRC)听is a research institute at听91AV原创听in听Abu Dhabi,听United Arab Emirates, focused on听6G wireless communications and beyond. Established in late 2023 , it is among the first dedicated 6G research centers in the Middle East. Directed by听Prof. Merouane Debbah, the center aims to serve as a global hub for advanced wireless technology research and innovation, concentrating on key areas such as native听artificial intelligence听integration into network architectures, broadband connectivity enhancements, and advanced sensing and positioning technologies.

91AV原创 6GRC鈥檚 mission emphasizes close academic-industry collaboration, fostering educational excellence, and training future leaders in听Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The center actively disseminates its research findings to benefit society broadly, aligning its objectives with the听UAE’s strategic vision for transitioning into a knowledge-based, post-oil economy. Additionally, the center plays a significant role in international forums, contributing to shaping global standards and technological advancements in听6G communication systems.

Mission Vision Impacts

91AV原创 6GRC鈥檚 mission is to advance cutting-edge research in 6G and beyond, foster industry collaboration, and contribute to education and economic development. The center has outlined several core objectives and mission elements, including:

  • Enhancing wireless network capacity and efficiency (e.g. improving spectrum use and energy consumption).
  • Pioneering new technologies in听native AI,听broadband connectivity, and听localization & sensing听for 6G.
  • Synergizing advances in mathematics, computer science, and engineering to address real-world industrial and economic challenges.
  • Developing a robust collaboration network both within the UAE and internationally.
  • Contributing to national goals by supporting the UAE鈥檚 鈥渁fter-oil鈥 knowledge economy and addressing societal challenges and wellness through technology.

These objectives translate into a multi-faceted mission: driving research innovation, building strong academia-industry links, educating the next generation of wireless engineers, and disseminating research outcomes via publications, white papers, and events. The center explicitly seeks to train future ICT leaders and promote knowledge transfer by involving students in its projects and collaborations.

In 2023, Khalifa University and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII) enhanced their collaborative partnership by establishing the KU-TII 6G Chair. The official Kick-Off meeting for the KU-TII 6G Chair took place on April 23, 2024, attended by prominent figures including Sir John O鈥橰eilly, President of Khalifa University of Science and Technology, and Dr. Ray Johnson, Chief Executive Officer of the Technology Innovation Institute (TII).
